Handmade Cards

This past week was the anniversary of my grandparents' wedding, and we all made handmade cards. I did the watercolor rose, then the next was my sister's (7 years old), and the last was made by my mom, who wrote a bit more about them here.

Coming Christmas

Thanksgiving was Thursday, Black Friday was yesterday, and it seems Christmas is almost upon us. Today we brought up the many boxes of decorations and ornaments from the basement and started going through and setting up everything. We have a space cleared for the Christmas tree, the village has been set up on the sewing machine table, (the sewing will be taking place at the kitchen table for now.) and we're making plans for gifts and whatnot. I was at a loss at to what I was going to do for this year's Christmas presents for friends, as I couldn't seem to figure out what to purchase for several of them, but I think I'll jsut make something for everyone. Not crocheted scarves, like last year, but something made from the heart all the same, just not quite so time-consuming. I have a pretty good idea as to what I'll be doing now, but I'll keep these ideas to myself as to not spoil any surprises. ;]

We got a bit of snow overnight last night, and so I thought today would be the perfect day to break out Gretchen's sweater. I crocheted it for her about 2 years ago, and it was a bit big then. Now she's thinner than she was before, so it hung on her like an elephant's skin, but it's still cute, no? Maybe I'll add a bit of elastic, or maybe weave a matching ribbon through the stitches and tie it with a pretty bow as a bit of a drawstring. Mmm, so many things to do!

Pink Dress

I really love this dress. It's fairly simple overall, but it just has little things that make me love it. The puffed sleeves, the roses and lace at the waist, and the lacey flowers at the collar just make it irresistably adorable. It was a store-bought dress, but seeing it today just made me want to get a pattern and get going on a homemade dress for my sister. :)

Quiet Day

Today was quite cold (it stayed below 30 degrees Farenheit most of the day) and it was spent mostly quietly, just doing the everyday things, and spending some time warming up by the heater.

Pumpkin Pie

I'm not really sure what to say. We made a pumkin pie; there's not much more to say, but they say a picture is worth a thousand words, so I suppose my not-so-lengthy post can be forgiven because of the presense of the photo. ;]

Finished Cap

This week I finished the cap I was working on for my sister.
(Pattern found here.)
I must say, I am so very glad I started running out of the yellow and was forced to add a large off-white stripe because I'm afraid otherwise it may have resembled a construction hat, and that isn't quite the look I was going for. :P

Now on to the skirt! :]

Morning Walk

This morning was a very blue morning--not a glum blue, mind you, a bright, cheerful blue. I went for a walk with the dog and saw some beautiful clouds, a few bright mallards, and a blue jay.

Lots of Crocheting

I put down my crocheting for the Summer, but now I've picked it back up again, and I have lots of unfinished projects to work on.

-a hat for my sister using this pattern

-a skirt for my sister not using a pattern--just off the top of my head

-a shawl for me using a pattern from a book I got for Christmas last year

And I'd also like to make a pair or two of leggings for my sister for this winter. We bought her a pink pair last year, and she loved them, so I'd like to crochet some for her--probably one pair in a nice cream and then maybe another in a navy or a brown to match some more of her outfits.

Back to work! :]

A Comparison

The same branch in Spring...
And Autumn. =)

Is lovely to see all the changes going on around us as we move into winter. Most of the trees have lost their leaves, we had our first snow last week, the days are getting shorter and morning frost has become the norm. I can scarcely believe that winter is almost here!
